The Harry Potter saga could become one TV series. Second Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Discovery would be close to concluding a agreement for the realization of a project based on seven magical bestsellers by JK Rowling, which have been translated into more than eighty languages and have sold over half a billion copies worldwide. The agreement would provide for the development of a TV series in 7 seasons, each based on a different volume, and would thus suggest the creation of a future franchise. Also, according to rumors, the plot would not retrace the events narrated in the spin-off saga Fantastic Beasts (which was supposed to develop two more chapters after the third title Dumbledore’s Secrets), and theauthor JK Rowling would maintain a creative involvement in the project without holding the role of showrunner, even if according to sources the negotiations are still in the preliminary stage. Doubts also arise about the castsince the actors chosen to play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and other beloved characters from the saga should follow the exploits of, among others, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. The April 12thon the occasion of the official presentation to the public and investors of the new streaming service that will arise from the merger of HBO Max and Discovery +, Warner Bros. Discovery could also announce the new project set in Hogwarts.
THE SUCCESSES OF HARRY POTTER
Warner Bros. has already given birth to the eight film adaptations of JK Rowling’s books, from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011), which with earnings of $7.7 billion became the third highest-grossing saga of all time. After the success of spin off Fantastic Beastsof the theme parksof the video game Hogwarts Legacy and of theathral show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (based on the events of Harry’s sons, Ron and Hermione), the saga of the boy wizard does not seem to exhaust the enthusiasm of the public, which could be further revived by the TV series. Last November David Zaslavmanaging director of Warner Bros. Discovery, had declared that “our idea is to focus on franchises. We don’t have a film on Superman for 13 years. We don’t make a movie of Harry Potter for 15 years. The movies of Harry Potter they have provided much of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures’ profits over the past 25 years. We still have the right to make new films de The Lord of the Rings, for example”. Zaslav had then specified that “we are not talking about Fantastic animals. We are not talking about secondary works. We are talking about the original saga of Harry Potter. They will choose a new cast for Harry, Hermione, Ron. They’ll start all over again.”
