3 million cruise passengers in the port of Civitavecchia during 2023. A historic record – for the Lazio port and for the entire national cruise industry – which the Port Authority proudly announced in the conference at the Port Authority of Civitavecchia. “3 million is a historic result, the highest number of cruise passengers ever managed by a port in Italy. These are results that come from significant planning and development work, the funds allocated by the Pnrr will allow us to obtain an additional 400 m of usable quay. We have made a great record, now we want to qualitatively increase the offer we give to cruise tourists” said Pino Musolino, Port System Authority of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Central Northern Ports of Civitavecchia. The future objective, explained John Portelli, General Manager of Roma Cruise Terminal, is to reach 3.5 million passengers by 2025. From 2007 to 2023, shipowners brought 38 million passengers to Civitavecchia, transforming it into a hub cruise industry with global resonance. The notable increase in the average number of passengers, which went from 2,000 to 4,000, has generated a positive impact on employment, just think that a 360 meter ship provides work for around 300 people. Furthermore, the territorial aspect was emphasised, with the creation of numerous B&Bs and car parks and the importance of completing strategic infrastructures such as the Orte-Civitavecchia. Civitavecchia has definitively found its vocation, positioning itself as first-class in the world of cruises.
