500,000 free airline tickets to boost tourism in Hong Kong. It is the initiative launched by within the ‘Hello Hong Kong’ campaign which aims to bring visitors back to the region, after the collapse linked to the pandemic which saw arrivals drop last December to 5% compared to three years earlier.
Free tickets from March 1st
The airlines will organize promotional activities such as lucky draws, buy one get one free offers and ticket games starting in March, according to Fred Lam, chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Airport Authority. “These free airfare campaigns will start on March 1 and will run for six months,” Lam said.
Offer looking to Southeast Asia
The offer will first target potential tourists in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore, before expanding beyond the region. “Those who get the free tickets will hopefully bring some relatives and friends with them,” Lam added, stressing that he expects a multiplier effect by attracting 1.5 million visitors between March and September.
