‘Il Gigante’: ‘Boom requests for gastronomy + 25%, good fish + 14% and sparkling wines + 25%’

For the Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas lunch, reservations in the gastronomy sector increase significantly. To detect it is the Observatory of ‘Il Gigante Supermarkets‘(large-scale distribution group which has 70 points of sale) according to which – compared to the same period of 2020 (14/21 December) – the growth in these departments is equal to 25%. In particular, there is an increase in demand for appetizers (+ 30%).

“And even in these hours, due to the many cancellations that are reaching the restaurants – he explains Giorgio Panizza, director of the ‘Il Gigante’ group – the requests addressed to our ‘gastronomy spaces’ continue to have a notable surge ”. Fresh pasta also did well (+ 15%) and fish that grew by 14% (in particular smoked salmon and Norwegian fjords, prawns and red prawns from Mazara). Positive indications also from other ‘classics’ such as panettone and pandoro (+ 4%) and from Christmas baskets (+ 26%). Italian sparkling wines are also growing strongly, with a double-digit increase of 25%.
