One hundred thirty-four boats for as many very young athletes, eighteen provinces, two foreign teams and four days of competitions: all this from Thursday 8 December to Sunday 11 in the Gulf of Sferracavallo for the Sferracavallo International Optimist Race organized by the Circolo Velico Sferracavallo and included in the calendar of the Italian Federation Sail. The club makes it known in a note.
“A bridge – of the Immaculate Conception but also of sport – which will ideally unite Augusta, Bari, Bracciano, Brenzone, Catania, Crotone, Favignana, Marsala, Messina, Ortigia, Ortona, Ostia, Palermo, Pantelleria, Pescara, Reggio Calabria for three days , Torre del Greco, Trieste up to Croatia and Slovenia”.
“The regatta – open to helmsmen born between 2007 and 2011 (Division A) and between 2012 and 2013 (Division B) – will start on Thursday at 9.30 with the Coach Meeting; at noon – weather conditions permitting – the signal will be given notice of the first race. We will also go into the water on Friday, Saturday and Sunday trusting in a good thermal. A maximum of 12 races will be held for both divisions (A and B), no more than 3 races per day for both divisions “.
“Our Club is about to host the first edition of the Sferracavallo International Optimist Race – says the president Giuseppe Giunchiglia – and we are very satisfied with the response of the Clubs from all over Italy and consequently with the number of registered athletes. Once again sport unites, resets distances and ideally unites a country in the name of sailing and the sharing of healthy and solid values. We hope that the weather conditions will be optimal so that we can enjoy four days of good racing”.
