The film I Captain (THE REVIEW) by Matteo Garrone, already winner of the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 80th edition of the Venice International Film Festival and proposed by Italy for the 2024 Oscars as Best International Film, also obtained two nominations for Best Film and Best Director at the 36th edition of the European Film Awards. THE APPLICATIONS
The 4,600 members of the European Film Academy determined the nominations for the 36th edition of the film awards based on “the excellent quality of each film” and reflection on standards of diversity and inclusion. Between the most nominated titles appear, with five nominationsthe romantic drama Leaves in the wind by Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, winner of the Jury Prize at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival and Finland’s nomination for the 2024 Oscars as Best International Film, and The area of interest by British director Jonathan Glazer, winner of the Grand Jury Prize on the Croisette and proposed by the United Kingdom for the 2024 Oscars as Best International Film. Four nominations for the courtroom drama Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet, winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, who is also nominated as Best Actress for the protagonist Sandra Hüller. The interpreter will compete against herself in the same category, since she also received a nomination for The area of interest. Also nominated in the Best Film category The green border – Green Border by Polish director Agnieszka Holland, which portrays the difficulties of migrants caught on the border between Poland and Belarus. In the fifth of Best Actor Josh O’Connor appears, competing for The chimera by Alice Rohrwacher.
