The trailer of I Captain
Matteo Garrone, award-winning director of Gomorrah, Tale of Tales – Tales of Tales, Dogman, Reality and many other titles, returns to the big screen with a new film, which stages the physical and psychological violence suffered by migrants in their travel to Europe. The trailer of I Captainin particular, shows i two young Seydou and Moussa (newcomers Seydou Sarr and Moustapha Fall) as they initially live their lives in Dakar, Senegal, between work and poverty. The two then choose to abandon their land to try to reach Europe, in search of work and fortune. However, their dream first sees the fulfillment of a long and cruel journey, shown, even if only in the trailer, in its most total desolation and ruthlessness: from first being herded into a small open-top van, to the complex crossing on foot of the desert up to the horrors of the inhumane detention centers in Libya. The journey, at this point, as well as a physical pilgrimage, also becomes a metaphorical contemporary Odyssey, which winds through the perils of the desert, the sea and, above all, of the human being himself.
