Istanbul, armed attack in an Italian church: one dead. Hunt for attackers

A man died in an armed attack in the Italian church of Santa Maria in Sariyer, Istanbul. It all happened during the traditional Sunday mass, around 11.40am local time (9.40am in Italy). Two masked people – with their faces covered by balaclavas – broke into the church and started shooting in the air. Then a man ran towards them screaming and was hit: he is of Turkish nationality and was identified with the initials CT. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya writes on According to the Turkish online site T24 there would be other injuries, news not confirmed by the authorities.
