US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden filed their tax returns, reopening a tradition that dates back to the 1970s and which was interrupted by the previous president, Donald Trump. In a note, the White House specified that the presidential couple earned $579,514 in 2022 and paid $169,820 in income tax at a rate of 23.8%. Last year, the US president and his wife, the first first lady to keep her teaching job, declared $600,000 for 2021.
The donations
In their tax returns, Biden and his wife also said they donated $20,180 to 20 charities. The largest was $5,000 to the Beau Biden Foundation, a charity that fights child abuse dedicated to the president’s son who died of cancer. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff also filed their tax returns. Their income was $456,918 and their income tax payment at the 20.5% rate was $93,570.
