Landslide Ischia, agreement reached: Legnini will be commissioner

According to what Adnkronos learns, an agreement has been found on the name, proposed by the Campania Region

Giovanni Legnini will be the extraordinary commissioner for civil protection in Ischia. According to what Adnkronos learns, an agreement has been found between the Civil Protection Department and the Campania Region on the name of the commissioner for emergency management after the Casamicciola landslide. The name of Legnini was proposed by the Campania Region, which first opposed its “no” to the proposal of the Council of Ministers for the appointment of Simonetta Calcaterra, extraordinary commissioner of the Municipality of Casamicciola Terme since last July (disbanded after the resignations of 7 councilors municipalities), and today he rejected the idea of appointing the prefect of Naples Claudio Palomba. Legnini is already extraordinary government commissioner for the post-earthquake reconstruction of 2017, which struck the island of Ischia and in particular the municipality of Casamicciola.

DE LUCA – Reasons of “specific experience, functionality and operational speed”. These are the reasons why the Campania Region has appointed Giovanni Legnini, extraordinary government commissioner for post-earthquake reconstruction in 2017, as emergency commissioner for Casamicciola, an Ischia municipality hit by a landslide at dawn on 26 November. The president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca illustrated his position in a letter sent today to the Civil Protection Department. In the letter De Luca complains, regarding the identification of the names first of the commissioner of the Municipality of Casamicciola Simonetta Calcaterra and then of the prefect of Naples Claudio Palomba, that “there was no informal preventive comparison with the Campania Region, as a relationship of loyal institutional collaboration”.

According to the Campania Region, it is “reasonable” to focus on the name of Legnini “due to the obvious connections between the plan for the reconstruction of Ischia and the current emergency” and to avoid “giving up a possibility of immediate operation by those who entertained relationships, matured experience of procedures and specific knowledge of the territory. The delicacy of the assignment in question is such, moreover, as to require a fully absorbing and exclusive commitment”.
