Rossoneri ahead 2-0 at half-time, the hosts recover in the second half. Leao gets hurt, the Giallorossi’s 3-2 annulled at the end: Puglia against the referee Abisso
Lecce and Milan draw 2-2 today, 11 November 2023, in the match valid for the 12th matchday of Serie A. The Rossoneri coached by Pioli, ahead 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Giroud (28′) and Reijnders (35′), were joined in the second half by the Giallorossi, scoring with Sansone (66′) and Banda (70′ ). Milan rose to 23 points on a bitter day: Leao was knocked out due to injury and Giroud was sent off late. In the standings, the Devil risks losing further contact with Inter and Juventus. Lecce, who saw Piccoli’s 3-2 goal canceled out in the 94th minute, rise to 14 points.
Milan started well but in the 10th minute the bad news arrived. Pobega serves Leao on the deep run but the Portuguese stops due to a muscle problem. Immediate change, Okafor comes on in place of the Portuguese. The Rossoneri don’t seem to be affected by the absence of the number 10 and in the 14th minute Pobega shoots towards goal with his left foot but Falcone blocks it. The first opportunity for the hosts came in the 23rd minute with Banda who shot from distance but Maignan was not surprised.
Milan passes shortly after. At 28′ exchange between Okafor and Theo, assist for Giroud who scores from a few steps away, hitting with his belly. Lecce felt the pinch and in the 35th minute the Rossoneri doubled their lead: Chukwueze served Reijnders on the midfield line, the Dutchman takes flight and once he reaches the area he beats Falcone with a low and tense right foot for the 2-0. The Dutchman himself came close to an encore shortly after, in the 38th minute but after Giroud’s aerial pass this time Reijnders hit the base of the post to the left of the Lecce goalkeeper. The home team could reopen the match in the 39th minute with Strefezza who serves at the far post on the restart. Banda shoots with a sure shot but finds the miracle from Maignan.
Milan seemed to control without too many problems even at the beginning of the second half. In the 52nd minute Reijnders again causes panic in the penalty area then a rebound almost sends the ball into the net but Falcone manages to take the ball after a double deflection near the goal line. In the 64th minute the Swiss Okafor goes away on the left, enters the area and tries to place a right-footed shot into the bottom corner but Falcone stretches out and blocks it.
In the 66th minute Lecce’s outburst reignites the match: Blin flicks the ball from a corner to the far post where Sansone is reactive to beat Maignan with his first-time left-footed shot from a few steps under the crossbar. The two new arrivals scored the goal and reignited Lecce, who equalized in the 70th minute. Musah loses the ball in midfield, the Giallorossi restart on the Piccoli-Sansone-Banda axis, with the Zambian this time beating Maignan with his left-footed shot. THELecce completes the comeback and continues to push. Milan tried to raise their heads in the 72nd minute with Theo Hernandez who tried from the edge on the counterattack but his low shot to the far post went just wide.
It’s just an episode, Lecce pouring into the Rossoneri half of the pitch. In the 77th minute Sansone again shoots directly towards goal from a free kick but hits the outside of the net. In the 84th minute, the same former Bologna striker came close to scoring a personal encore by heading over Florenzi at the far post but hitting the post with the ball dancing on the line to come out on the opposite side of the goal. Samson again challenges Maignan in the 89th minute.
Tension rises and in the 93rd minute Giroud protests and is sent off by Abisso. The incredible thing then happens in the 96th minute when from Falcone’s clearance the ball reaches Piccoli who turns and suddenly shoots from distance, mocking Maignan at the near post. It would be 3-2 for Lecce but VAR calls Abisso to the on-field review and the goal is disallowed for a step on foot on Thiaw of the same Giallorossi striker. Many protests from Lecce but it ends 2-2.
