Lift, because many couldn’t finish the Netflix movie with Kevin Hart

Lift is the new film by F. Gary Gray, starring Kevin Hart. Having landed on Netflix last 12 January (but also visible on Sky Glass, Sky Q and through the app on Now Smart Stick), it has climbed the rankings of most viewed films. But there is a however. Many users, especially English ones, have harshly criticized the film. Coming to stop seeing it well before the end.

The reviews on Lift

Lift is an action comedy film, which follows a team of professional thieves with a seemingly impossible mission: to steal $500 million in gold bars from the hold of a plane, mid-flight. The release, initially scheduled for last August, was postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. But, when it landed on the platform, the film had expectations were not met. “Terrible movie. I gave up after twenty minutes because it didn’t make sense”, “It’s not worth it”, “I changed the film after ten minutes”: these are some of the comments you read on They deemed it “rubbish”, “atrocious”, and a whole series of even less kind adjectives. Experts, however, seem to agree with the majority of the comments. Critics of Rotten Tomatoes they assigned to Lift a score of 31%, even lower than 34% of the public. On IMDb, however, things are a little better (5.5 out of 10). Obviously, there is no shortage of voices out of the chorus. “I don’t agree with the fact that it’s a bad film”, “Exceptional film”, “I saw it yesterday: good film”, “Great film! I hope there will be a sequel”: these are the other comments, of all ‘another tenor, always present on X.

The plot and the cast

Of the heist movie genre, Lift tells the story of a professional thiefCyrus Whitaker, determined to steal with his gang half a billion dollars in gold bullion. The safe, however, is located on a plane in flight. Hence the plan: steal the entire plane. In the cast, alongside Cyrus Whitaker / Kevin Hart, we find Úrsula Corberó (the pilot Camila) and Vincent D’Onofrio (friend Denton). Billy Magnussen plays the burglar Magnus, Viveik Kalra the engineer Luc, Yun Jee Kim the electronics expert Mi-Sun. Also present in the cast Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Interpol agent Abby Gladwell), Sam Worthington (Abby’s boss, Dennis Huxley) and Jean Reno (the shady banker Lars Jorgensen). Finally, an Italian presence: that of Stefano Skalkotos.
