Manchester City sang Your Song to Elton John, met at the airport in Manchester after winning the FA Cup. And for the occasion, the English football team changed a verse of the hit as follows: “And you can tell everybody, we’ve won the FA Cup ”, which means “and you can tell everyone that we won the FA Cup”. The modified verse replaces the famous “And you can tell everybody. This is your song” from the British singer-songwriter’s hit.
It happened over the weekend, exactly on June 4, 2023: Manchester City players and staff met Elton John by chance on the airport runway, just after the victory in the FA Cup final.
The team sang the chorus of Your Song while she had a photo taken with the legendary musician, who was in the city for some dates of his current (and last) tour.
Elton John performed in Manchester at the end of May, playing three nights at the city’s AO Arena. In addition, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, a big fan of him, also attended one of the live shows.

Elton John: ‘Congratulations on an incredible double’
Elton John also shared a photo with the team on his Instagram profile, with the musician smiling and holding the FA Cup. “Congratulations on an incredible double,” wrote the singer-songwriter.
He then crossed his fingers wishing Manchester City a treble, which in football is achieved when a team wins three trophies in a single season. Manchester City also lifted the Premier League trophy ahead of their FA Cup victory, and will face Inter Milan in the Champions League final next week.

The British music star is in full swing. Sadly for fans of this living legend, this year’s tour will be his farewell tour. It’s titled ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ and features a headlining performance at Glastonbury later this month. The singer confessed to being “a little intimidated” by that festival in a recent interview with BBC London, but also noted that performing at Worthy Farm will be “the nicest way to end (the tour) in England”.

Elton John also noted that the set list for the Glastonbury show will be “very different” to the standard set he has performed every night of this farewell tour. He also pointed out that special guests will be joining him at the festival, but did not reveal any names or clues to hint to fans who they might be.
