The scenery it looks like that of Mars, actually the images come from southern Negev desert, in Israel. The shots document the training of a group of European and Israeli astronauts participating in the mission, called Mars AMADEE-20, a simulation of what could happen if man really were to set foot on the red planet

The scientific initiative is directed by the Austrian Space Forum, in collaboration with the Israel Space Agency and with the participation of the European Space Agency. The goal is carry out experiments in view of possible future missions of human exploration, but also robotics, on Mars

During the mission more than 25 experiments will be conducted, including two in collaboration with the European Space Agency. More than 200 researchers from 25 countries are involved in this international mission under Austrian leadership

The team, whose members come from Portugal, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria And Israel, until October 31, they will live inside a station that simulates Martian life

“The structure of the soil, the extreme weather conditions, even the type of minerals present in the soil” are characteristics that make the Israeli desert area where the training is conducted similar to Mars. Hence the decision to make it the site of research and also to carry out tests on rovers and robots in the field
