Martelli (Unicef): “The integration of Ukrainian children accelerates thanks to Amazon and the Akelius project”

The platform, taking advantage of digital technology, allows the development of writing, verbal production, reading and listening skills

“Over 870 thousand students of non-Italian citizenship are enrolled in Italian schools: about 20 thousand new arrivals every year, a number that doubled in 2022 with the arrival of girls and boys from Ukraine. The Akelius platform, taking advantage of digital technology, allows the development of children’s writing, verbal production, reading and listening skills. Collaboration with Amazon it has made it possible to respond to the need for educational reintegration that the Ukrainian emergency has brought about”. This was stated by Sarah Martelli, Unicef AI Country Coordinator, on the sidelines of the delivery at the Roman parish of Santa Maria delle Grazie of some gifts to children who arrived this year from Ukraine, as part of the #DeliveringSmiles initiative promoted by Amazon and Unicef. “Support for school integration – continued Martelli – is fundamental, starting with learning the language. Thanks to the important donation received, Unicef was able to guarantee newly arrived children in Italy immediate access to digital devices, including tablets and headphones. By using the Akelius platform on these devices, we are able to accelerate the development of linguistic and digital skills”.
