There Marvel is trying to trace the identity of whoever spread the 63 pages of a dialogue taken from the film on the web Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniainterpreted by Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly And Jonathan Majors and released in the US on February 17, one month before the premiere. As reported by variety an official request, filed Friday, March 10 on behalf of Marvel in the federal district court of California, asked for the issuance of a subpoena to compel Reddit to identify the person or group responsible for disclosing documents in the subreddit channel r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, now closed, around January 20 last year. The production company requested “all identifying information for the u/MSSmods user” and for “any other user responsible for posting, modifying and/or maintaining the content” available on the subreddit between January 15th and on February 15th. Marvel’s subpoena was filed under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act. A Reddit spokesperson, reached for comment, declined to disclose whether or not the company intends to comply with Marvel’s request for information. “Reddit is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. We have rigorous processes in place to evaluate legal requests and object when appropriate.”
PROBLEMS WITH GOOGLE
Marvel also filed a similar request to request similar information from Google after someone allegedly shared the document on Google Docs. Previously, the studio had sent both Reddit and Google requests to take down the infringing material. According to the piracy news site TorrentFreak, which had already reported Marvel’s legal documents, the film’s leaked online dialogue was edited and/or displayed on a Portuguese web interface. The report also cited evidence of “the likelihood that the text was intended for use in subtitles”.
