The warning was launched by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, talking about the PNRR (WHAT IS) during the meeting at the Quirinale with the newly appointed referendums of the Court of Auditors.

“We are going through extraordinary times, the huge resources of the PNRR require in a short period of time a considerable volume of investments that will affect society, together with the reforms, just think of the ecological and digital transition plan”, Mattarella recalled. Then he underlined: “The NRRR translates into future generations. This extraordinary effort of the EU has not by chance taken the name Next generation, a name that recalls generational solidarity. Resources that must be used in a careful and responsible way”. “It will be up to the Court to verify the expenses”, the head of state recalled, “the Court is called to take into account the importance reserved to corruption and fraud in the use of funds”.

Mattarella also drew attention to the “growth of public debt” which “requires an additional responsibility”. “Already starting this year, public finance documents indicate the objective of reducing public debt, an unavoidable objective if we intend to make the recovery stable and lasting “.
