Meloni and Schlein naked and pregnant on the walls of Milan

The two leaders were portrayed naked by the artist aleXsandro Palombo

The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the leader of the opposition, Elly Schlein, were immortalized by the artist aleXsandro Palombo who in the new pop work that appeared this morning in the central Piazza San Babila, in Milan, painted them shoulder to shoulder and pregnant to address the issue of surrogacy. The two leaders challenge each other without veils, the writing ‘My uterus my choice’ appears on Schlein’s lap and ‘Not for rent’ on Meloni’s, the tricolor flame and a rainbow flag tattooed on their arms.

‘Power is female’, this is the title of the work, “is created in a historical moment in which Italy stands out on the international scene for the competition between two women at the top of institutional power while in parliament the surrogacy and the FdI bill to make it a universal crime that can also be prosecuted abroad” the artist announced. The prohibition of surrogacy “is only on a national level, while in other countries, especially non-European countries such as the United States and India, these practices are legal”.

Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein, underlines aleXsandro Palombo “have in common a historic opportunity to meet at the summit together and debate directly without worrying about male interference on issues concerning the female sphere, this occasion will be able to strengthen the path towards equality of gender, emancipation and self-determination”. It is not the first time that the artist has captured the essence of time by portraying important political figures: in 2019 she had immortalized the most powerful women in the world from Angela Merkel to Michelle Obama as victims of violence, the series in 2021 was acquired by the funds of the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, becoming part of the national collection.
