Joe Biden had revoked it a year ago but the Supreme Court had reinstated it, accepting the appeal of some Republican states. Now, however, with the official end of the pandemic, that rule expires and back to title 8which allows asylum seekers to wait in USA for the outcome of their request

To mitigate its effects, the Biden administration has launched in recent months a new package of measures, to give a signal of “humanity” and at the same time of “firmness”. These include a plan that will allow each month up to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Haiti to enter the US legallyfor a period of two years and with a work permit

Furthermore, those who think they have the right to enter the USA will have to make an appointment in special centers created in Latin America instead of going directly to the border. At the same time there will be a crackdown on those who enter illegally. “Our border is not open,” warned the secretary of internal security Alejandro Mayorkaswarning that those who enter illegally will now face more serious consequences, including expulsion from the country

But all this was not enough to discourage tens of thousands of migrants who, hungry and thirsty under a scorching sun, have been pressing for days on the border with Mexico putting El Paso, Texas into a state of emergency: more than one wave is expected from today 150 thousand people, with an average of about 10,000 a day

“There will be some chaos for a while,” admitted Biden, who has sent another 1,500 soldiers to the border with logistical support duties, in addition to the 2,500 National Guardsmen already present and the hundreds sent by Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott. For the president, it could be a bomb not only humanitarian but also political, with the Republicans already on the attack

“It will be a day of infamy, our country will be destroyed“, he accused Trump in the CNN forum with Republican voters, claiming his policy on the separation of migrant families: “If they love their children, they don’t come”. The Republicans in the House, on the other hand, are aiming for the approval of a law to strengthen border security, also by resuming the construction of the Trumpian wall (which, however, has no chance of passing in the Senate)

The emergency at the border with Mexico is also booming in the dem house, with sanctuary cities for migrants already collapsing after some Republican governors, from Texas to Florida, continue to send hundreds of asylum seekers there by bus. With over 78,000 people in ‘shelters’, New York has reached the limit of hospitality and Mayor Eric Adams temporarily halted an old rule that grants anyone in need ‘the right to a roof’ by overnight

The city pays “billions of dollars” and will be “destroyed” by this crisis, Adams warned, criticizing Biden for his handling of the situation while even the neighboring counties refuse to accept hundreds of illegal immigrants that the mayor wanted to send to ease the pressure on the Big Apple
