Minimum wage, the Chamber approves the suspension. The opposition protests

The House of Deputies gives the ok to the suspension of the majority, on the examination of the opposition’s bill on the minimum wage for a period of 60 days. From the benches of the opposition the result was greeted by the chorus of “shame, shame”. Announcing the vote against the M5s, Conte warns: “Do not present yourselves in October with proposals aimed at splitting the audience of underpaid workers”. And Schlein: “We are faced with the flight of the majority, who flee from a real problem”

The Chamber of Deputies approved the suspensive question of the majority, aimed at suspending the examination of the opposition’s bill on the minimum wage for a period of sixty days. There were 168 votes in favour, 127 against and three abstentions. From the benches of the opposition the result of the vote was marked by the chorus “shame, shame!”.

Schlein: the majority flee

“We are faced with the flight of the majority, who flee from a real problem,” said Pd secretary Elly Schlein. “We are open to dialogue. Not to indefinite postponements. The majority say they don’t care about people’s suffering. This is not a simple suspension but an escape of the right-wing majority in the face of a real issue that burns on the skin of citizens that cannot be covered with fake news. Faced with a unitary proposal from the oppositions, it flees from reality, but it cannot be escaped, 3.5 million workers are poor even if they work, the question of wages is enormous and cannot be suspended, postponed, poverty does not go into vacation, knows no break, and divides the country, steals the future, depresses growth”.

Conte: “Don’t come up with proposals to split the workers’ audience”

Announcing the vote against the M5s, Giuseppe Conte, leader of the M5s, said: “We’re already telling you now: don’t present yourselves in October with proposals aimed at splitting the audience of underpaid workers”. Meloni are just words left”, then attacking the politicians “who deny the minimum wage and ensure” their salaries.

Speranza’s reactions to Fratoianni

Nicola Fratoianni (Avs) said that “the majority have chosen the path of an escape. You have chosen to escape. But not from us, from the opposition, but from reality, from the country. The story that this law depresses bargaining is ridiculous.” The deputy Pd Roberto Speranza, on Facebook, instead wrote: “No one must work for less than 9 euros per hour. Below this threshold it is exploitation. This is the sense of our proposal on the minimum wage. Today the right in the classroom postpones the exam until we don’t know when. But we won’t stop. It is a fair battle in the interests of over 3 million workers in our country”. The secretary of +Europa, Riccardo Magi, speaking in the Montecitorio room, commented: “The Government and the majority do not know what they think of the minimum wage and they know what to do. The suspensive has become the preferred act of this executive”.
