Minister Guido Crosetto visits Lebanon: “Situation in the region does not degenerate”

“Lebanon is a fundamental junction for regional stability and for the entire Mediterranean. In these difficult times, even greater commitment is needed for regional peace and security so that the situation does not degenerate”. This was stated by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, who arrived in Lebanon for a series of institutional meetings and to spend Good Friday with the soldiers of the national contingent.

Upon his arrival in Beirut Crosetto, accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardiere, met the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic Najib Mikati. During the meeting, the strong bond of friendship between the two countries was underlined and Italy’s commitment to regional stability was confirmed. Among the topics covered also the theme of the Enlarged Mediterranean and the economic situation of Lebanon. Minister Crosetto’s visit is also an opportunity to bring Easter greetings to the soldiers of the national contingent in a particularly delicate moment such as the current one due to tensions in the south of the country and to make the closeness of the Government and the Italians felt.
