The crews will travel a few thousand kilometers using low environmental impact propulsion and fuels: electric, hybrid, LPG, methane and biomethane vehicles from series production or regularly registered prototypes. The competition, organized by Automobile Club Roma, which takes care of the automotive sporting aspects and Punto Gas, operator in the automotive and sustainable mobility sector, allows you to acquire points valid for the Aci Sport Green Challenge Cup trophy dedicated to alternative energies and is counted among the Mobility Actions of the European Mobility Week.

“I am pleased to welcome the crews participating in the first edition of the Roma Eco Race, the regular sports car race reserved for vehicles powered by alternative propulsion and fuels – underlines the president of the Lazio Region Francesco Rocca in his message – I want to thank the president of the Automobile Club Roma Giuseppina Fusco and Punto Gas, organizers of the event, for wanting to promote the advantages of eco-sustainable mobility through this competition. I take the opportunity to reiterate, on the occasion of this event, my commitment and that of the Lazio Region in promoting sustainable mobility for all citizens of our territory”.

The first Rome Eco Race takes place under the patronage of the Lazio Region, Sport and Health, Rome Mobility Department, Coni Lazio Regional Committee, Municipality of Frascati, City of Albano Laziale, Castelli Romani Regional Park, Uiga Italian Union of Automotive Journalists and in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Italy. With the support of the main sponsor Sara Assicurazioni and the sponsors Brc Gas Equipment, Albamobility, Gruppo L’Automobile and Autostar Flaminia. Technical partners of this first edition Ddn, E-Gap, Slime, Solum Roma and Wolf Lubrificants.

Assogasliquidi-Federchimica also joined as a partner. For the president, Andrea Arzà, “Roma Eco Race arrives at a particularly positive moment for alternative energies, and among the alternative ones, LPG is the leading fuel, as confirmed by the latest data on new registrations relating to August 2023: we record a +26.3% month on month and another +26.3% in the first 8 months of the year, compared to the same period in 2022. The market share is 9% in the January-August period and even 9.8 % in August. Italians choose LPG and Roma Eco Race demonstrates that LPG-powered cars also have brilliant performance, so much so that they can be used for a sporting competition.”

Program and route – Meeting at 10.30 at the Solum Roma club in via Appia Antica (access by car allowed only to crews, guests and staff). After the technical checks, the crews leave one minute apart from each other from 4.30pm to head to Frascati, where the cars park from 4.50pm to 5.20pm, welcomed by the mayor of the town. They then move into the Pratoni del Vivaro valley, a large grassy expanse bordered to the south-east by Monte Artemisio and to the north by Maschio delle Faete and Monte Cavo. The subsequent stages on the Alban Hills are Lake Nemi and Lake Albano, after which the crews end the first day of competition in Castel Gandolfo, in via Spiaggia del Lago, where they will arrive starting from 7pm. On Sunday morning meeting in Castel Gandolfo at 10.30, from where the vehicles depart for Albano Laziale to cross the finish line, scheduled for the first car in the race at 11.15. The participants will then move back to Rome to Via Appia Antica for lunch and the awards ceremony, starting around 1pm.

The tests – Along the itinerary the crews undertake 5 medium tests. The route, described in the road book, the book used in rallies which indicates the road ahead with symbols and plans, is divided into sectors within which sections called in Italy Pm (media tests) have been identified by the organisation. in which the average speed must be respected in every single meter of the route. The ranking is formed through secret checks on the route which assign penalties to those who deviate from the set speed. To detect the deviation from the set average, secret chronometric detection points are positioned at a pre-established distance from the start, in which the transit time of each competitor is recorded. The difference from the ideal (theoretical) transit time, measured in tenths of a second, compared to the actual recorded time, determines the penalties which will be expressed in points.

Roma Eco Race Trofeo Levs – Alongside the cars of the Green Challenge Cup there are also electric quadricycles, which constitute a separate category, with a separate classification and compete for the Roma Eco Race Trofeo Levs, Light Electric Vehicles.

1st Rome Eco Race Press – Memorial Fiammetta La Guidara – In order to help spread mobility with low environmental impact, the competition also includes a race reserved for journalists and media from the automotive sector. Press competitors fall into both rankings. The race was named after Fiammetta La Guidara, a sports journalist who died prematurely, the first female voice in Italy in a motorcycle championship and well known and appreciated in particular in the motoring world.
