Mourinho, the dismissal and Dybala’s message: “We hope to see each other again”

The Argentine and thanks to the Special One

Paulo Dybala greets José Mourinho after the dismissal of the Roma coach and sends the Special One a message that leaves open a glimmer of hope for the future and at the same time fuels some doubts about the future of the Argentine striker. “Thank you mister! Thank you for everything”, Dybala begins in the message. “Working with you was an enormous pleasure. Thank you for your advice and every word you gave me. I wish you and your staff all the best. I hope we’ll see each other again soon!”, concludes the former Juventus striker.

Dybala arrived in Rome in the summer of 2022 precisely ‘for’ Mourinho. The Portuguese coach’s pressure was decisive in convincing the Argentine, free on the market after the expiry of his contract with Juventus, to choose an adventure with the Giallorossi. Mourinho has never skimped on praise for the South American, considered the player capable of making the difference for the Capitoline team. Dybala, however, over the course of a year and a half in Rome confirmed all his technical qualities and all his athletic limitations, with repeated ailments and stops due to muscular problems. Dybala is tied to Roma by a contract valid until 2025, the agreement provides that the player can be released with a relatively low clause to move abroad.

Without Mourinho, Roma must launch a new technical project. And Dybala’s role, at this point, must be redefined. In January next year, the Argentine is free to possibly agree with a new club. His stay at Roma inevitably involves a new contract, with a probable adjustment of the salary to eliminate any clause and eliminate any risk of a unilateral farewell. Now, however, the club is in a moment of disarray: with the farewell of Tiago Pinto, a reference manager is missing. It will take time to settle in and to set up the new paintings. At the same time, we will need to plan for the future: the coach for 2024-2025 will need to be chosen in a short time. Will Daniele De Rossi go from ferryman to ‘long-term’ coach? Or will Roma focus on another name? With a big player, it would become easier to convince Dybala.
