Municipal elections 2023, Vittorio Sgarbi elected mayor of Arpino

“The victory in Arpino is the confirmation of the capitals of culture that live in the present memory of the great writers and artists and poets”, said the new mayor. Sgarbi beat the other two candidates obtaining 44.39% of the votes

Vittorio Sgarbi was elected mayor of Arpino, in the province of Frosinone, with 44.39% of the votes. The other two candidates Andrea Chietini (30.46%) and Gianluca Quadrini (25.15%) were beaten. “The victory in Arpino is the confirmation of the capitals of culture that live in the present memory of the great writers and poet artists. Around Cicero, born in Arpino, the city has created the Certamen which concretely involves hundreds of students and scholars in the translation of the classics of the great Latin writer. It is a true expression of the shared culture of the language that has generated the main modern languages”, commented Sgarbi. And again: “There is no doubt that no city has a real and constant identity of European capital of culture more than any other Italian city and in the name of study and knowledge”, he concludes. It is not the first time that Sgarbi has been elected mayor. The first time more than 30 years ago, when he was elected mayor of San Severino Marche, in the province of Macerata, on 9 December 1992, holding his position until 24 December 1993. 16 years later, it was Salemi’s turn, in province of Trapani. He became mayor on June 30, 2008 (until February 15, 2012). The last time in Sutri, in the province of Viterbo: from 11 June 2018 to 15 May 2023, precisely the day of the election as mayor in Arpino, in the Frusinate area. Now the chair in Arpino adds to those that the undersecretary already occupies in the Government of Giorgia Meloni, as pro-mayor of Urbino and councilor for beauty of the Municipality of Viterbo, as well as those in the various cultural foundations.
