Murder Giulia, Nordio: “A guide against feminicides to recognize warning signs”

For the Minister of Justice “what yesterday might have seemed like gallantry, insistence, social messages could instead be a sign of future violence”. “We need an organic intervention – says the Guardiasigilli -. And a radical re-education especially of young people and adolescents, to make them aware of their duties in particular towards their peers”

“Spy attitudes”. The Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio uses these words when, commenting on the murder of Giulia Cecchettin, al Corriere della Sera says: “Just as in the mafia there are spy crimes, so in feminicides there are spy attitudes: symptoms of a possible worsening of violence. We are preparing a booklet, with very understandable graphics, to be distributed in schools, social networks, workplaces”. And again: “What yesterday might have seemed like gallantry, insistence, social messages could instead be a sign of future violence. And it is also necessary to inform boys of the prefigured crimes and the risks they run with certain behaviors because the accumulation of these crimes It also makes me think of a sort of emulation.”

“Radical re-education”

“More than an organic law, we need an organic intervention – says the Keeper of the Seals -. And a radical re-education especially of young people and adolescents, to make them aware of their duties in particular towards their peers”. According to Nordio “the aggressiveness of many men derives from the millenary sedimentation of male domination over women, which began in the early days of civilization when the only criterion of supremacy was muscular strength. Hence the female subordination in the military, political, cultural and sexual. Only in recent decades have we taken note of the equal dignity of gender. But if rationality accepts this situation, our genetic code is difficult to remodulate. Since its roots are deep, it is these that we must affect. This is why we need to educate and inform, listen to young people but also give adequate answers”. On Elly Schlein’s proposal for a law for education on respect and affection in schools, the minister concludes: “A new law can also be made, and it would be welcome if it helps at least in this sector to find an agreement with the opposition. But laws prune the branches, only education eradicates prejudices. And we need to act on that.”
