Napoli, Garcia: “We will defend the scudetto with our claws”

“We need the points lost at home against Lazio, in Bologna to get them back”

“I already said it at the beginning, a club like Napoli must be in the Champions League every year, we must finish in the top four. Then it’s clear, when you are Italian champion the ambition is to defend with your claws the scudetto that we have on our chest. Let’s see, for now we are fifth and we are not happy with it. We’re only thinking about tomorrow.” Napoli coach Rudi Garcia said this in a press conference on the eve of the away match against Bologna. The French coach spoke about the game formation: “We have the 4-3-3 as a basis, but with the same 10 of movement I can use different modules without changing elements”.

“Every time I meet the fans in the city they encourage me, they say they are with me, I speak directly to them. Then we work every day to improve, obviously we won in Braga in a deserved manner but we should have protected ourselves with more goals. The glass is half full because winning away in the Champions League is never easy, we are in good shape and await Real Madrid at home in front of our fans. But daily bread is important. we are not happy with being fifth and we have to win“, says the Napoli coach.

“We are an attacking team, we knew it, we have always scored goals in every match, we could have scored more, even in Braga, but sometimes you need a few millimeters on your side. For the rest, we conceded 5 goals in the league, too many, but we only conceded 8 shots and therefore it’s not as if we were out of position or conceded a lot. We also need more defensive effectiveness – he underlines – We can improve on the game, even if I remember the first half against Lazio, we missed the second and we lack a result that today could make us feel great. It’s only that second half that put us in difficulty, losing at home. We have to recover those points away, knowing that Bologna is a good team, with a good coach, I admired him as a player and I’m happy he’s also doing well as a coach.”

“We face a team that plays, has quality, but nothing changes for us, after 4 days recovery is important to feel good and apart from some players who need to get back to 100% everything is normal”, adds Garcia.

“One hundred days as Napoli coach? The important thing is the results and winning the match tomorrow – he says – I’m also happy to have been leading this group for 100 days. We are motivated and focused”.
