The decision taken into consideration of the “extreme gravity of the facts”. Hearing set for tomorrow
Palazzo Chigi and Viminale are civil parties in the criminal proceedings regarding the Cutro shipwrecka decision that “was taken into consideration of the extreme gravity of the events, which saw the death of at least 94 migrants and a high number of missing”.
“The Undersecretary of State at the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantovano, has given instructions to the Attorney General of the State to act as a civil party, representing the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of the Interior, in the criminal proceedings following the shipwreck occurred on 26 February 2023 not far from the Cutro coast”, Palazzo Chigi announced in a statement.
The defendants, in concert with each other, are charged with the crimes of aiding and abetting illegal immigration, negligent shipwreck and death as a consequence of the crime of aiding and abetting. The hearing in which the civil parties are expected to be brought together is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 29 November.
