Group commissions Sealence to study the electrical retrofitting of its ships
Lauro di Navigazione Group, founded by Commander Agostino Lauro, commissions Sealence to study the electrical retrofitting of its ships. This is what the group announces, explaining that the first installation of DeepSpeed electric jets will be carried out on a boat used for tourist excursions in the Gulf of Naples and neighboring islands. The ship has a length of 24 meters, a maximum capacity of 160 passengers and belongs to the Captain Morgan shipping company based in Ischia.
The objective of the refitting is to allow the ferry a completely electric navigation with a continuous operation of 9 months a year, for about 6 hours a day, at a cruising speed of 18 knots. The propulsion will be entrusted to a “DeepSpeed 840 Hybrid” powertrain which involves the installation of 2 DeepSpeed 420 electric jets, originally designed for speeds in the order of 50 knots and which are currently being optimized by Sealence engineers to allow for efficient navigation even at low speeds.
Ischia, together with Procida, “Italian Capital of Culture 2022”, will be at the center of the experimentation activities. These activities are expected to start in 2022 and then end with the full entry into service of the boat in 2023. “With the launch of this initiative, the Lauro Group confirms itself not only as a technologically advanced company, but also in line with the vision of the Sealence oriented towards a more sustainable and comfortable navigation, that is, without noise, vibrations and emissions of pollutants in the air and in the water “underlines the group. With this refitting, the Lauro Group makes the Sealence mission its own: “Water will be the only footprint we will leave”.
