Powerful, versatile and with a big screen. The big screen that Apple ultralight PC fans have been waiting for for a long time. We tried the new 15-inch MacBook Air, a concentrate of innovation and technology that convinced us, during our test, on practically all aspects.
The main features
The new 15-inch MacBook Air is thin (just over 11 millimeters) and is both durable and comfortable to carry, both in the hand and in a backpack or large bag. While not exactly a featherweight (it weighs just under a kilo and a half) it is still a light laptop for its category. The real novelty of this year is the 15.3-inch Liquid Retina screen, which is larger than what we were used to on the Air models: it is very bright, brilliant, offers sharp colors and text, with a small frame and proportions that make it very “capacious” in terms of display space, and therefore ideal for multitasking. On board we then find the very convenient MagSafe port for recharging (very convenient because it is made of a magnet and detaches without causing damage if someone inadvertently trips over the charging cable). The charger is small and light and can charge two devices simultaneously. On board there are two Thunderbolt ports for connecting to accessories and external monitors up to 6K and the headphone jack; there are no traditional USB ports though. The equipment is completed by the FaceTime HD camera, three microphones capable of eliminating background noise and an audio system with six speakers of very high quality and power.
Impressions, availability and prices
Using the MacBook Air for work or entertainment sometimes leaves you amazed by its speed and performance, even with many apps in use at the same time: thanks to Apple’s M2 processor, which the Cupertino-based company judges up to 12 times faster than the most faster than Intel-based MacBook Air models. Speaking of energy, even the autonomy of the new Air in our test proved to be surprising and allows you to use it intensely even for a whole day without having to recharge. While with a more traditional use (web, mail, streaming) it can last even several days. Great for both business and student use – games also run very fast and smoothly – the new 15-inch MacBook Air is available in four colors: Galaxy, Midnight Black, Space Gray and Silver. Designed with recycled materials and rare earths, in our opinion it has an attractive price for such a complete system: 1,649 euros or 1,879 based on storage space, 256 or 512 gigabytes.
