Brazilian soccer star Neymar has been tough against his former club and has said he and former teammate Lionel Messi have been through “hell” together at Paris Saint-Germain. Asked about Messi’s World Cup win with Argentina last year, the 31-year-old said in an interview published by Brazil’s Globoesporte portal on Sunday that he was happy for the reigning FIFA best player and sad at the same time. “He went to heaven with the Argentine national team, winning everything in recent years. And with Paris he went through hell,” said Neymar. “We’ve been through hell, him and I.” Neymar didn’t go into details, but said Messi was unfairly criticized in Paris and didn’t deserve the way he’s gone from a footballing point of view.
Before Messi moved to the United States to Inter Miami this summer, he and Neymar played together for two seasons at French champions PSG. The two South American forwards had already been teammates from 2013 to 2017, when they were in Spain with Barcelona. Messi recently stated in a press conference that he did not want to leave Barcelona and that he has had a difficult time at PSG. With Miami, the 36-year-old Argentine champion won his first nine games, scoring 11 goals and leading the team to a League Cup victory. Neymar moved to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago for around €90m.
