The producer himself announced it to ‘Variety’: “The series, which will consist of 6 episodes of 50 minutes each, will tell the same story as the film but in an expanded form with different narrative strands”. Belardi also added that Giuseppe Tornatore is currently working on the treatment and the pilot episode with the idea of starting filming in a short time for a possible delivery of the project in 2023.

In the tv series the background of the lives of the main characters created by Tornatore will be told and who live in the imaginary Sicilian village of Giancaldo, where “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso” is set. The themes that will intertwine in the series will be the same as in the film: the solidarity of a friend, sex as a taboo, the strength of a mother, forced transfers, escapes and marked social differences.
