On Lake Maggiore the tenth edition of the Verbano Classic Regatta

Among the boats also the Grifone di Straulino, historical dinghies and Latin sail goiters are also admitted

The Verbano Classic Regatta is back on Lake Maggiore, the most important and popular national regatta in inland waters reserved for vintage, classic and traditional sailing boats. The tenth edition will take place from 2 to 4 September 2022, organized by Avev, Associazione Vele d’Epoca Verbano, in collaboration with CVMV, Circolo Velico Medio Verbano and MIDeC, International Ceramic Design Museum. At the Verbano Classic Regatta, a unique case in the world of regattas with vintage boats, even historical dinghies are admitted, with a class dedicated to them.



Some 5.50 meters SI (International Tonnage) are expected to participate in the regatta, including the 1963 Grifone of the Italian Navy, winner of the World Championship in Naples in 1965 with the historic crew of Straulino, Minervini, Petronio. An important training opportunity in view of their Italian Championship, scheduled from 15 to 18 September 2022 at the Circolo Nautico Sambenedettese in San Benedetto del Tronto (AP).

Also present is Isabella, representing the Italian Yacht Club of Genoa, and the Latin sail boats of the Traditional Sailing Association. Since the purpose of the event is to meet up with friends who share the same passion, no protests will be accepted during the regatta. The regularity of the event is entrusted to the fair play of each individual competitor and to compliance with navigation rules. For overnight stays, special agreements are available at structures in the area, close to the village of Cerro. The Verbano Classic Regatta is an event sponsored by FIBaS (Italian Federation of Historic Boats), Aive (Italian Association of Vintage Sails), Asdec (Association of Vintage and Classic Hulls), Lombardy Region, Municipality of Laveno Mombello.

The boats admitted to the Verbano Classic Regatta are: 1) Vintage wooden sailboats, built before 31/12/1980. 2) Classic and traditional sailing boats, vintage or more recent, in wood or fiberglass, but which by design or material construction have an interest in nautical traditions (Dragons, Metric Classes, Star, Soling, etc.). 3) Latin sailboats that respect tradition in terms of lines and materials. It will be at the discretion of the organizing committee to accept the application for participation in the Trophy. Depending on the number of participants, the boats admitted to the event can be divided into the following groups: 1) Classic and Epoca Racing Class, 2) Classic and Epoca Cruiser Class, 3) Classic and Epoca Dinghy Class, 4) Latin Sails Class, 5) Class 5.50 SI (International Tonnage).
