Outlander 7 arrives from 19 July exclusively on Sky. You can watch the official trailer, just released, in the video that you find at the head of this article.
From Diana Gabaldon’s bestsellers, the beloved costume drama by Ronald D. Moore returns with the first part of the seventh season. After the events of the season 6 finale, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will face new adversities. The War of Independence is imminent, but some questions still remain unanswered. One for all: who killed the young Malva Christie?
The seventh season of the series consists of sixteen episodes. The main cast of this seventh chapter sees on the set Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, Mark Lewis Jones, Chris Larkin, Caitlin O’Ryan, David Berry and Charles Vandervaart.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will return for the eighth season of Outlander. That will be the last of the series based on Gabaldon’s novels and will consist of ten episodes. Even when the original series comes to an end, however, fear not for fans: it has already been confirmed that a spin-off will be made. The new project will explore what happened before the events of Outlander and it will be called Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Meanwhile, however, let’s enjoy the seventh season of the series, soon to arrive in Italy, exclusively on Sky.

The 7th season is the penultimate date with the original series (before the spin-off)
Filming for the seventh season was done in early April 2022.
The TV series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s literary saga of the same name, and each chapter usually deals with one novel.
While with season 6 the book was adapted A Breath of Snow and Ashes (which in Italy was divided into Burning Snows And Cannons for Freedom), 7 is the screen transpose of the next volume: An Echo in the Bone (in Italy released in two parts, with the title of Crossed destinies And The Price of Victory).
The seventh season is the penultimate date with the original series (before the spin-off).
The plot begins in early 1777
Outlander 7 begins the story in 1777, when Jamie and Claire decide to leave Fraser’s Ridge to return, together with Ian, to Scotland. They will be held up in Wilmington and, when they finally manage to leave, they will be intercepted by a British naval launch. They will remain in America, in Ticonderoga. Soon the third Battle of Ticonderoga will break out.
Brianna and Roger, meanwhile, are back in 1980 and live in Lallybroch. From here they follow the adventures of Jamie and Claire through a series of letters they find in their home.
The cast, between old and new acquaintances
In the cast of season 7 of Outlander we find Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, who return respectively as Claire Fraser, Jamie Fraser, Brianna Randall and Roger MacKenzie.
There will also be the characters of Fergus (played by César Domboy), Marsali (played by Lauren Lyle and Ian (played by John Bell), old acquaintances that we left in the sixth season.
Then there will be Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, Nell Hudson aka Laoghaire Fraser, Steven Cree as Ian Murray, Andrew Whipp as Brian Fraser, Layla Burns aka Joan MacKimmie and Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan.
Jenny Murray will also return for this seventh chapter: she is Jamie’s sister, a role that however has been subject to a recent recasting, so we shouldn’t expect Laura Donnelly but the new entry Kristin Atherton (Shakespeare & Hathaway).
New entry in the cast
Among the new actors arriving for this seventh season are Izzy Meikle-Small (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Joey Phillips (Billy Elliott), respectively in the roles of brothers Rachel Hunter and Denzell Hunter, two Quakers who will be shocked when the young Ian arrives at their farm with a sick and injured character who goes by the name of William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart).
Then there is Gloria Obianyo (Dunes) as Mercy Woodcock, a free black woman coping with hard life in colonial America.
Rod Hallett (The Last Kingdom) is Benedict Arnold, the revolutionary soldier turned traitor. Chris Fulton (Bridgerton) is Rob Cameron, a new entry who will have to do with Roger and Brianna.
Diarmaid Murtagh (vikings) is Buck MacKenzie, the illegitimate son of Dougal MacKenzie and Geillis Duncan (and is also the ancestor of Roger, a character previously played by Graham McTavish in Season 5).
Production
The TV series is a Tall Ship Productions and Left Bank Pictures production, in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are executive producers.
Initially, 12 episodes were planned for chapter 7, but then we reached 16 total episodes, which arrive divided into two blocks.
