Who said that even “traditional” products such as monitors for babies and newborns can’t become smart? From Owlet come Owlet Cam 2, a smart HD camera that thanks to artificial intelligence is able to decipher the sounds present in the room where the child rests by detecting various data including crying, and Owlet Smart Sock, an intelligent sock that Monitor your oxygen level and heart rate.
Owl Cam 2
Owlet Cam 2 is a camera that works within your home Wi-Fi network: once connected, everything is managed through an app (Owlet Care) that you can activate on your smartphone or tablet whether you are at home or is outside, for example at work. Through the app it is possible to receive notifications on the mobile phone for every single movement, crying or other sound coming from the bedroom and it is also possible to talk to whoever is on the other side of the camera. Parents can access video clips and audio recordings of the bedroom and monitor parameters such as room temperature or humidity. The camera has excellent quality both during the day and when the room is dark.
The “smart sock”
The Owlet Cam 2 camera integrates, within the “Monitor Duo” package, with the Owlet Smart Sock. It is an “intelligent sock” capable of continuously monitoring heart rate and blood oxygenation, very important data especially in newborns, sending a notification in the event of abnormal parameters. Through the smart sock it is also possible to keep track of the total hours slept and the number of awakenings.
Impressions, availability and prices
These are certainly two very useful products that take newborn and child monitoring to a higher and professional level. During our test we found the first configuration a bit complicated, with the camera having to frame a QR Code present on the smartphone: although we used a large and very bright phone like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, it took us several hours before being able to configure the system; we also found that the iPhone app in some cases fails to connect to the camera: nothing – we imagine – that can’t be solved with a future software update. It is important to note that the system works connected to Wi-Fi and therefore if you move (for example to another house or a hotel) you have to repeat the configuration procedure. Owlet Monitor Duo costs 279 euros.
