The start of the 69th edition of the Palio of the Normans which will take place in Piazza Armerina (Enna), on 12-13-14 August. We are talking about one of the oldest medieval costume re-enactments that since 1952, the year in which the first edition took place, animates the Baroque city of 100 churches.
The procession will consist of over 600 appearing between ladies and knights and an entire community will relive one of the most interesting pages of Sicilian culture. The novelty of this year is that, for the first time, everyone will be able to be protagonists of the story and identify with the different characters thanks to the opportunity to wear the precious period costumes, made by the famous cinema tailor Pierantoni who has worked for colossal film productions such as Troy, Game of Thrones and many others. Piazza Armerina in these 3 days it celebrates the story of a possible coexistence of several cultures. The direction is entrusted to Gisella Calì while in the cast there are many “returns”, starting from Alessandro Cremona, known for having played the role of the “villain” Marco Sciarra in the film “Specter”, of the “007” saga and who will play the role of the Grand Magistrate. Among the other protagonists of the Palio 2022 there will be Gianluca Barbagallo (the master of ceremonies), Turi Love (the bishop), Antonio Casso (the malaterra) e Federica Amore (the minstrel).
from beautiful to the palio
To make the magical atmosphere of the Palio dei Normanni even more cosmopolitan, always in search of an imaginary dialogue between present and past, will be the participation of the international star Ronn Moss who will play the charming Count Ruggero D’Altavilla. It seems a coincidence that the American actor starred for years with the role of Ridge in Beautifulreturns to Sicily after 40 years from his first film ever “I Paladini”, set in Sicily and in which he played the figure of the Count Ruggero d’Altavilla. The actor accepted without hesitation the prestigious leading role: “There is a strong bond between me and Italy and I am very happy to be able to return here to play playing what was my first acting role. That Count Ruggero d’Altavilla, a historical and important figure for this city and for Sicily. I am very curious to discover Piazza Armerina, a city of which one does nothing but speak well, has a great architectural and cultural heritage, I would like to know it better these days and, from here, maybe set off to discover Sicily, an island extraordinary that I want to know better“.
