The short film Strange Way of Life Of Pedro Almodóvar will be presented in world premiere in Official Selection at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (THE SPECIAL), which will take place from 16 to 27 May. The Spanish director and the two leading actors, Ethan Hawke And Pedro Pascalwill be present at the screening of the westernwhich was filmed in Southern Spain and which represents Almodóvar’s second English-language experience since The Human Voice in 2020. The viewing will be followed by a conversation involving the entire filmmaking team.
THE SURPRISES OF THE SCREENPLAY
As Almodóvar explained, “the strange lifestyle referred to in the title alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, the text of which suggests that there is no existence stranger than the one lived by turning one’s back on one’s desires”. The film narrates the bond between two men, rancher Silva and sheriff Jake, who once worked together as mercenaries. After twenty-five years, Silva rides into the desert with the excuse of finding the companion of his youth and the two celebrate the meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his journey is not to retrace the path of memories of their old friendship . The cast of the film, produced by Agustín Almodóvar with Esther García as executive producer and Bárbara Peiró, Diego Pajuelo and Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent as associate producers, also includes Pedro Casablanc, Manu Ríos, George Steane, José Condessa, Jason Fernández, Sara Sálamo , Ohiana Cueto and Daniela Medina, while the music is composed by Alberto Iglesias.
THE OTHER DEBUTS
Jeanne Du Barrythe costume drama directed by French director Maïwenn Le Besco and starring Johnny Depp as King Louis XV, will inaugurate the Cannes Film Festival on May 16. On the Croisette will debut in preview Also Indiana Jones and the Quadrant of Destiny with Harrison Ford on May 18 and the crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, on May 20. The full line-up will be announced on April 13.
