Piazza Affari in red, decreasing yield in the BTP auction

New closing in red, even if far from the intraday lows for the Piazza Affari list. After yesterday’s purchases, the directionality in today’s session is attributable to the words spoken by the CEO of Moderna, Stephane Bancel, during an interview with the Financial Times: vaccines could be punctured by the new variant and to have a drug capable of blocking even the new version may take several months.

On the day Eurostat announced that the Euroland inflation rate rose to 4.9% in November, the Ftse Mib closed the session down 0.87% to 25,814.34 points. The worst performances were recorded by industrialists (-2.75% for Stellantis and -1.94% for CNH Industrial) and by stocks in the energy sector (-2.91% of Tenaris and -1.34% of Eni).

In the red also Saipem (-1.81%), which announced the signing of a new contract with a total value of approximately 750 million dollars, and Telecom Italia (-2.36%) after rumors about an alleged involvement in the match by Xavier Niel, founder and first shareholder of Iliad.

Among the best performances we find, for obvious reasons, the pairing formed by Recordati and Diasorin (+ 0.87% and + 1.97% respectively), UniCredit (+ 1.14%) and Terna (+ 1.23%) .

On the day in which the Ministry of Economy placed 5 and 10-year BTPs for 4.25 billion euros and 7-year CctEu for 1.5 billion, the BTP-Bund spread showed a + 1.6% at 131 basis points. The five-year bond saw the yield drop by 9 cents to 0.19% while in the case of the second the data showed -2bps to 1.02%. In the case of CcTeu 2029, the yield showed a 3bp rise to 0.02%.
