Piedmont protagonist in Singapore with the world truffle auction

The President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio present in Singapore on the occasion of the international connection with the world auction of the white truffle of Alba held two days of meetings with the local authorities, including the Minister of Labor with responsibility for trade and industry, Tan See Leng, the President of the Singapore Food Agency, Lim Chuan Poh, and the top management of Enterprise Singapore.



The President was able to present Piedmont’s opportunities in a 360-degree story of the Region: from automotive to aerospace, from new food technologies to hydrogen. “Piedmont – explained President Cirio to his interlocutors – today represents the pilot region for the Italian government’s hydrogen policies, thanks to its innovation strength linked to the Polytechnic and the ability to immediately apply these new forms of clean energy”.

An interest in Singapore and South East Asia, that of Piedmont, which has grown steadily in recent years, hand in hand with the increased attention that Italy devotes to this increasingly strategic part of the world. In fact, there are numerous initiatives organized by the Piedmont Region which, thanks to its natural vocation for internationalization, wants to offer Piedmontese companies the tools necessary to explore the Singapore market with greater awareness, and hence an area of ​​600 million consumers.

The President’s visit opened with the XXIII edition of the World Auction of the Alba White Truffle. The event coincided with the inauguration of the Singapore edition of the Week of Italian cuisine in the world, which will be celebrated over the next two weeks with over thirty initiatives, including one for scientific dissemination on childhood obesity in collaboration with the National University of Singapore and the Gaslini Pediatric Clinic in Genoa.

The institutional meetings followed on Monday. The President had an interview with the top management of Enterprise Singapore, during which future collaborations were discussed. In particular, a mission of Singaporean companies to Piedmont to learn about the opportunities in the sectors of the Green Plan promoted by Singapore.

During the visit to the laboratories at the National University Singapore, Prof Massimo Alioto explained the joint project with the University of Turin of scalable and low power interfaces for the Internet of Things.

The subsequent meeting with the Italian system in Singapore, represented by the European Chamber of Commerce, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, ICE, the Bank of Italy, allowed the President to take stock of the activities that the Piedmont Region, accompanied by the Embassy and by all the actors of the country system present in Singapore, will be able to support to favor the internationalization of Piedmontese companies in this area, in continuity with what the Region is already doing to promote the leading sectors of the Region.

The visit ended with a meeting with Singaporean tour operators for the organization of thematic tour packages dedicated to Piedmontese excellence. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the event at the “Italian Wine pairing dinner” organized at the Cricket Club, a historic and prestigious club in the heart of Singapore.
