PlayStation 5, it’s a record: over 40 million consoles sold

The era of console hunting is definitely over. Months ago the PS5 was practically unobtainable. At Sony there have been difficult times due to the strong demand and almost embarrassment for not being able to satisfy all the fans.

Today, however, PlayStation 5 celebrates the milestone of over 40 million consoles sold worldwide.

Announced in 2019 and launched on the market in 2020, PS5 immediately conquered fans of the world of video games.

Jim Ryan’s message

PS5 launched with the best catalog of titles in our history, and the sprint to deliver great content continues unabated. Ranging from groundbreaking indies to AAA blockbusters, there are over 2,500 PS5 games available right now, and it’s never been a better time to enjoy PS5. In the last couple of months alone, we’ve seen incredible titles made by our partners, among them Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV and Street Fighter 6.

Since the launch of PS5, gamers have enjoyed a selection of great titles, demonstrating just how deep and creative video games can be as deep and creative as any other entertainment medium.

A great addition to the PS5 generation has been our range of accessories. Over the past two and a half years, we’ve unveiled new ways for players to personalize their gaming experience, bringing exciting colors and shades into their homes. We have developed a range of colorways for the DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console covers – these accessories have proven very popular, as gamers want their PS5 to fully reflect their tastes.

We developed PS5 with our community as a reference point, which led us to offer great innovations, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the DualSense controller and PlayStation®VR2. PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners have leveraged these features to expand their creative tools, to deliver a generational leap in experiences for gamers.
