A raw, vital and innovative exploration of the adult film industry, Pleasure is the first film by Swedish director Ninja Thyberg. One of the more daring beginnings of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, with professional porn stars playing versions of themselves, Thyberg’s captivating debut is as sincere as it is bold. The film will premiere for Italy on June 15 at the Biografilm Festival in Bologna. Starting June 17th, Pleasure will be available on Mubi

Adapted from Thyberg’s 2013 award-winning short film of the same name, Pleasure follows “Bella Cherry” (newcomer Sofia Kappel) as she arrives in Los Angeles with a dream of becoming the next porn superstar. The girl lives in a “model house” with other aspiring performers and will soon become friends with roommate and porn actress Joy, who helps her find her way around this fascinating new world.

However, as her unbridled ambition leads her into increasingly dangerous territory, Bella struggles to reconcile her dreams of emancipation with the reality of the darker sides of the business. Pleasure is a representation of the porn industry that breaks taboos and faces, through an uncompromising gaze, the complex issues of consent and power in the field of sex work.
