Polish Ambassador Anders: “No threat to Ukrainian territorial integrity, Poland supports Kiev”

“Accusations about our willingness to occupy territories in western Ukraine as a result of the Russian disinformation campaign. Our policy in close collaboration with NATO allies and EU member states”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a threat to the territorial integrity of Ukraine could come from Poland. The Polish ambassador to Italy Anna Maria Anders replied to this statement, speaking with Adnkronos, underlining that “the Russian invasion has clearly shown even the most doubtful where the threat to the territorial integrity of Ukraine comes from. Poland has been committed to supporting Ukraine for years. It is therefore not surprising that our commitment to helping Kiev has increased further after the Russian aggression on Ukraine. Poland is the country that has welcomed the largest number of Ukrainian refugees, but we have not created refugee camps. The overwhelming majority of the more than 3 million Ukrainians fleeing the war have found hospitality in the homes of Poles ”. Not only that, the ambassador adds that “Poland also supports Ukraine politically”. And she recalls that “the presidents of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski, are in constant contact. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Kiev together with the Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Slovenia as early as March 15, 2022. Poland is also helping Ukraine militarily by sending it weapons ”.

In recent weeks, Russian media, citing military sources, have accused Poland of wanting to occupy some territories in western Ukraine. Claims, according to Anders, “extremely ridiculous. However, there is no doubt that the disinformation campaigns conducted by Russia are very evident and affect not only Poland and Ukraine, but also many Western countries. Russian propaganda is currently very active in most EU countries and tries to achieve its goals. Various techniques are used, ranging from fake paid accounts on Twitter and Facebook expressing ‘support’ for Russia’s actions, from distributing fake news, to attempts to use local commentators and pundits to spread pro-Russian narratives in individual countries. . In the case of Poland, one of the main objectives is, of course, to create divisions with our Ukrainian friends. Fortunately, the degree of Poles’ support for Ukraine remains enormous ”.

Poland remains one of the most resolute NATO member states in demanding harsh sanctions against Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine and more substantial and effective arms supplies to Kiev to counter the Russian invasion. A political and moral duty, the ambassador judges it, explaining that “Poland conducts its policy in close collaboration with NATO allies and EU member states. We believe it is our political and moral duty to stop the cruel Russian troops in Ukraine. We are convinced that the only way to achieve this is to help Ukraine win. Therefore arms supplies to Ukraine are on the rise and sanctions against Russia are strengthened ”.
