Pope Francis, today a day of prayer and fasting for peace

A day of prayer, fasting and penance for peace was announced by Pope Francis for today, Friday 27 October, inviting believers of other faiths to join. In the afternoon, at 6pm, the Pontiff will pray in St. Peter’s Basilica with the rosary, adoration, to ask that the many conflicts that are bloodied across the planet be brought to an end, starting with those in the Holy Land and Ukraine.

A prayer from Rome to Jerusalem

It will be a global prayer in which the whole Church will participate: in Jerusalem the friars of the Custody will make a ‘way of the cross’ for peace. And Imam Yahya Pallavicini, vice president of Coreis, also expressed his support: “The Italian Islamic religious community thanks Pope Francis for the universal spiritual appeal he recognizes in the invitation to fasting addressed to Christians for peace in the Holy Land”. “Fasting so that the search for peace and not the force of war or terrorism prevails”, underlines Pallavicini, hoping that “Jewish, Christian and Muslim civilians and believers will fast and abstain from any opposition, claims and retaliation”. The voice of religious leaders will join the large demonstration in Rome called, again today, to ask for a ‘ceasefire’ and a just and lasting peace.
