Poste Italiane has chosen to present the 2022 budget numbers with a podcast with Poste Italiane managers explaining the company’s objectives, video interviews and multimedia content downloadable with the QR code and augmented reality artwork used to present the eight pillars on which the company’s sustainability strategy is based. A mini-site has also been dedicated to the figures in the financial statements which explains the objectives and results achieved by the Group.
In 2022 turnover of approximately 11.9 billion euros
Poste Italiane is the largest service distribution network in the country, the leading employer in Italy and also the most distributed reality in the area with almost 13,000 post offices. In 2022 it recorded a turnover of around 11.9 billion euros and the highest number of employees among Italian companies, over 120 thousand. It therefore represents a presence that contributes substantially to the development of the country. Numbers, results and objectives that Poste Italiane has chosen to present in a mini-site dedicated to the results achieved in 2022 and in the 2022 Budget document. The latter, in addition to all the financial information, also presents content enriched by video interviews, stories and podcasts to tell the company not only with numbers but through its history and the stories of its people. Poste Italiane’s goal is to clearly and transparently represent the relationship between the financial and sustainability elements that define the business model and the Group’s strategy and to fully understand what actions it has taken to support the growth of the country and create shared value, describing the goals achieved and at the same time presenting an overview of short, medium and long-term goals.
The impact on GDP
According to reports from the company, in 2022 the Poste Italiane Group generated direct, indirect and induced impacts on Italy’s Gross Domestic Product for a total value of 12.9 billion euros and supported the Italian labor market through employment of about 181 thousand people. Between direct employees and those who work in related activities generated by the Group, it is possible to estimate that Poste Italiane has contributed to the distribution of income to workers for a total of 7 billion euro. Finally, in terms of tax revenue, the Poste Italiane Group contributed 2.1 billion euros. Considering the data over time, in five years (between 2018 and 2022) the Poste Italiane Group generated direct, indirect and induced impacts on the country for 62.1 billion euros of GDP, 36.8 billion euros of work, 10 billion euros in tax revenue. It has also contributed to the creation of 185,000 jobs.
Territory and SMEs
If we consider the direct impacts generated by Poste Italiane’s activities in 2022 in the various areas of the country, the gross domestic product values are between over 70 million and one billion euros, with an employment level of around 1,500 people and an income from work between 45 and 490 million euros. It can be estimated that 1 euro spent by Poste Italiane in 2022 for the purchase of goods and services has generated an economic value for the country system equal to 3 euros in terms of production value. Furthermore, there are more than 3,390 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises involved by Poste Italiane during 2022 through its purchases. The SMEs that work for Poste Italiane have had an impact on the level of the Gross Domestic Product of Italy for a value of 1.1 billion euros, leading to the employment of 17 thousand people and a distribution of income of 527 million euros . In addition, €340 million in tax revenue was created.
The distribution of value
In 2022, over 84% of the wealth produced by the Poste Italiane Group was distributed to its stakeholders. Among these, employees and suppliers benefited the most from the wealth produced: employees for 51.65% and suppliers for 29.91% of the total value distributed. If we then analyze the individual employee, during 2022 each person of Poste Italiane contributed to the creation of economic impacts for the territory equal to 107 thousand euros of GDP, 58 thousand euros of income for families, 11.6 thousand euros of tax revenue and also employment and 1.5 people.
The plan for 2024
Poste Italiane’s 2024 Sustain & Innovate Plus Strategic Plan is based on 8 pillars attributable to the Poste Italiane Group’s environmental, social and governance objectives (Integrity and transparency, Enhancement of people, Diversity and inclusion, Value for the territory, Green transition, Customer experience, innovation and sustainable finance. To give a representation of the impact of the Poste Italiane Group on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals envisaged in the 2030 Agenda, a section has been prepared within the 2022 budget which presents the correlation between the objectives of Poste Italiane’s ESG Strategic Plan and the needs of the Italian territory identified through the analysis of the SDGs report prepared by Istat.
