Prison Break it officially ended in 2017, with five seasons under its belt and millions of fans glued to the small screen. However, it seems that the fate of the series has not yet been written. Or, at least, not entirely.
The mystery of Prison Break 6
From Prison Break 6 there was talk already in 2018. At the time, FOX announced work on a further season of the show. Silence followed, interrupted in the pandemic era by Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows) and then resumed. So much so that fans began to think that a sixth season would never arrive. In recent weeks, hopes have been rekindled by a trailer published on YouTube: with a very high probability, however, it is one fake news, which went viral on social media but without any confirmation. Also because Wentworth Miller doesn’t seem willing to take on the (heterosexual) role of Michael Scofield. Nothing to do, then, to see Prison Break again on the small screen? In fact, the series will indeed return. But in a different form.
The reboot of Prison Break
Deadline made it known: Prison Break will return to life under the leadership of Mayans MC and Elgin James. Set in the world of Prison Breakthe new series it shouldn’t be about brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, but we’re likely to see some familiar faces again. This although it is not known to date, whether it will be a reboot, a revival, a spin-off or a sequel. The project is in fact in the very early stages of development (writing of the initial episodes has just begun).
The plot of Prison Break revolves around the events of a man unjustly sentenced to the death penalty for killing a senator. His intelligent brother gets himself arrested on purpose, in order to help him escape, but he soon discovers that his plan is much more difficult than he imagined.
The series gained popularity and praise for the improvisation ability of its protagonist, but also for the complexity of the story: the decisive part takes place at the end of the first season, but the following four and the fifth season which arrived after eight years worked extraordinarily well, equaling the success of the debut.
