Protests in Iran, Mattarella: outraged by repression and executions

The head of state received the new ambassador of the Islamic Republic, Mohammad Reza Sabouri at the Quirinale. During the meeting he urged to “put an end to the violence directed against the population”

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, received the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Reza Sabouri at the Quirinale for the presentation of his Credentials. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli was also present at the meeting. In the brief conversation – Colle informs in a note – the head of state expressed the firm condemnation of the Italian Republic and his personal indignation at the brutal repression of the demonstrations and at the death sentences and executions of many demonstrators.

The request to stop the violence immediately

Mattarella urged the ambassador to represent the urgency of immediately putting an end to the violence directed against the population to the Iranian authorities. The respect with which Italy regards its international partners and their regulations finds an insurmountable limit in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
