16 of the 32 teams that are participating in the groups will remain in the running
It will close on Friday days of the World Cup in Qatar. The race for the round of 16 is getting underway, goal difference, goals scored and even yellow and red cards could come into play to decide which 16 qualify and who, of the 32 participants, will have to go home.
Some of the 8 groups see the teams level and an equal points finish is foreseen on the horizon, but what happens in such a case? First step: highest number of points obtained in all group matches; better goal difference in all group matches; highest number of goals scored.
If two or more teams from the same group should still be in a tie after evaluating the 3 criteria listed above, the ranking will be determined as follows: highest number of points obtained in the direct match; better goal difference in head-to-head matches; higher number of goals scored in the direct match; highest team conduct score related to the number of yellow and red cards obtained (-1 point for yellow, -3 points for red from double yellow, -4 for direct red, -5 in case of yellow and then direct red) ; draw by FIFA.
