Tomorrow closure for schools and offices, amusement parks free for one day
Saudi Arabia’s sensational victory over Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar has caused a wave of enthusiasm in the Gulf country. King Salman has proclaimed a day off for tomorrow, with the closure of schools and officesreports the Spa press agency. For the occasion, the amusement parks will offer free admission.
Meanwhile, the Saudi media speak of a “historic victory”, and of a “tale of heroes”, while the praises for goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais are wasted. “Thousands and thousands of congratulations, heroes,” tweeted Sports Minister Abdalaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
To credit the success also to the royal family, it was underlined that the crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader of the country, did not put pressure on the players when he received them before the World Cup, thus facilitating their victory. Bin Salman is held responsible by the American services for the murder of dissident Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
