Below average temperatures from Friday until at least April 20, without hot or pre-summer signals
April still unstable, rain and snow coming at very low altitudes. As recalled by Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of iLMeteo.it, he recognizes a fair validity in all these proverbs born of popular wisdom, in the last 2-3 decades, April has increasingly presented almost summery connotations for most of the month, with 30 degrees in the air already registered in the second decade, and less and less frequency of cold days. This year, to restore value and importance to the pre-global warming popular wisdom, April marks a return to the past in line with the proverb ‘a cold day, a hot day’. Today it will touch 27°C in Sardinia, tomorrow 28°C in Sicily, then the snow will arrive in the Alps and the Apennines up to 700-800 meters above sea level, making us plunge back into winter for a while. Temperatures will remain below average from Friday through at least April 20, with no signs of warm or pre-summer weather.
A thermal picture therefore eventful, but also an equally dynamic meteorological picture from the point of view of the rains: in fact, 2 cyclones are arriving, one from this evening starting from the North-West and one over the weekend. These low pressures will both come from the North Atlantic and will bring the heaviest rainfall to the North-East and then quickly towards the Centre-South: the drought will continue in the thirsty North-West, despite about 10-30 mm of rain arriving from today see you on Sunday. At least 500 mm of rain is missing, especially between Piedmont and western Lombardy: the calculation of the water deficit is soon done, the crisis will continue.
In detail, today we will have moderate rainfall between Piedmont, Lombardy and Liguria with intensification in the late evening and extension towards the East and Upper Tuscany. Tomorrow we will have the day with the most heated bad weather, with snow in the Alps up to 500 meters and in the Apennines above 800-1000 meters: rainfall will be abundant between Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia with over 100 mm of rain in 24 hours.
From the afternoon the phenomena will also focus on the Center, while in the South there will be large clearings and anomalous heat, especially in Sicily. Finally, after a Friday of respite, with an intercyclonic phase of sunbursts alternating with quick showers, the second cyclone will arrive during the weekend. At the moment it is expected that this new perturbation from the North Atlantic will unload other abundant rains always on the same areas, largely skipping the North-West again: we have 2 months to find the missing rains on the drought territory between Piedmont and Lombardy, otherwise there will be there is a risk of water rationing even in the main cities.
