According to the police “the context of the clothing worn is deemed to approve, glorify or justify the violent and arbitrary rule of the Nazi regime”
Roger Waters is under investigation in Berlin for dressing on stage similar to an SS officer. After opening the show at the Mercedes Benz Arena in the capital with a statement in which he claimed to “unreservedly condemn anti-Semitism”, the co-founder of Pink Floyd performed on May 17 wearing a long black jacket, gloves and a red armband decorated with hammers instead of the Nazi swastika.
The Jewish News website quotes the German capital’s chief police inspector Martin Halweg, according to whom “the State Security department at the Criminal Police Office has launched a criminal investigation into suspected incitement of the people”. “The context of the clothing worn is deemed to endorse, glorify or justify the violent and arbitrary rule of the Nazi regime so as to violate the dignity of the victims and thereby disturb the public peace. After the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Berlin prosecutor’s office for legal evaluation,” added the police chief.
