Precautionary custody order in prison against a 59-year-old Roman ecological operator
He lured women on social media, drugged them and then raped them: a garbage collector arrested in Rome. The state police of Viterbo and Rome have carried out, in the capital, a precautionary custody order in prison against a 59-year-old Roman, an ecological operator by profession, seriously suspected of crimes of sexual violence and illicit diffusion of sexually explicit images or videos , committed in Capranica (VT), Riano (RM) and Mazzano Romano (RM), in the period between September 2022 and January 2023, against three different women.
The provision, issued by the judge for preliminary investigations at the Court of Viterbo and carried out by the policemen of the Viterbo flying squad and by the ‘Flaminio Nuovo’ Public Security Commissariat of the Rome Police Headquarters, arises from an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Tivoli and started by the Roman police following the complaint of one of the victims who presented himself at the ‘San Pietro’ hospital in Rome. The woman told the police that she had met the arrested man on social media and that, after a brief acquaintance, she had invited him home for a romantic evening. The next day, however, she herself realized that she had been heavily drugged and raped, as she later ascertained following medical investigations.
After careful investigations, investigators managed to identify the man and during a delegated search they seized a pack of sedative hypnotic drug and his smartphone. Inside, the police collected sufficient elements to reconstruct at least two other incidents of violence, which occurred in the same way.
In fact, on the mobile phone there were images of three different helpless women being subjected to sexual violence. Some of these images had been sent by the suspect to his friends and commented on in an ironic and contemptuous tone.
Also present were the conversations with the victims during which he had provided unlikely explanations to the women, who remembered nothing of the sexual relations. Since previous criminal acts which occurred in the province of Viterbo had also emerged against the interested party, the Tivoli Prosecutor’s Office sent the file to the Viterbo Prosecutor’s Office for territorial jurisdiction which immediately requested the precautionary measure and, at the same time, delegated further acts of investigation by the Viterbo flying squad.
The suspect was tracked down in Rome, in the ‘Casilino’ district, at the home of a new partner and transferred to the ‘Regina Coeli’ prison. At the same time, the men of the Scientific Police of Rome carried out a specific sampling and DNA test which was compared with the various finds seized during the investigation, further strengthening the evidentiary framework from which his responsibility emerges. Other investigations are underway in order to verify whether the suspect is liable for further similar episodes which have not yet emerged.
